Where is the best place to take tennis lessons if you really want to learn?
Learning tennis well depends less on the court and more on how you are coached. These are the five things worth checking at any tennis school — and how we handle them.
A qualified coach who follows your development
At 359 you work with a coaching team that hands over between coaches, so your build-up continues even if a coach changes.
Small groups, so you actually hit a lot of balls
We group players by age, level and availability. More rallies, less waiting and talking.
Being able to play all year round
Indoors at NTC Amstelveen you keep training through winter, wind and rain — see indoor tennis lessons.
A clear progression instead of separate lessons
You start in a START group and know by the end of the season what your next step is.
Visible progress you discuss with your coach
Through Fit · Fun · Focus we make it visible where you stand and what you are working on.
Your first tennis lesson: what to expect
The first lesson is about getting used to things: the racket, the ball, the court and your group. You don't need any skills, and you don't need to buy anything.
What to bring
- Sportswear and flat-soled shoes (indoors: clean indoor or tennis shoes)
- A water bottle — you'll move more than you expect
- No racket needed: free loaner rackets are ready in all START and RED groups
How the lesson runs
- A short introduction to your coach and your group
- Movement and ball feel before technique is added
- Your first strokes: forehand, backhand and building a rally
- A game to finish, so you leave the court with a success moment
Starting tennis: for children and for adults
Starting tennis for children (ages 4–12)
Children learn tennis fastest through play. In our Tenniskids lessons we use adapted balls, shorter rackets and smaller courts, so your child can rally from the very first lesson. We focus on coordination, attention and fun — not on perfect technique.
Starting tennis as an adult
Never played, or stopped years ago? In the adult START lessons you begin calmly: movement and ball feel first, then technique, then playing points. Getting fitter, playing socially and improving go together here — you don't need to be fit to start.
What does learning tennis at 359 cost?
The price of a beginner course depends on three things: the number of lessons in the season, the group size (group, duo or private) and the lesson length. Group lessons are the best value per person; private and duo lessons cost more per lesson but give more individual attention.
What's included
- Court hire and coaching by a qualified coach
- A free loaner racket in all START and RED groups
- Indoor lessons without compulsory membership (outdoor at TV De Kegel does require membership)
Current rates per programme are always shown with the programme itself — you see the price, day, time and number of lessons per group before you register.

From Beginner to Your Own Tennis Program
We look at:
Based on this, we create a personal program: 1 or more training sessions per week, private or in a small group.
Tennis Is More Than Technique
Beginners develop not only their athletic skills during tennis lessons, but also grow personally. Through regular training, self-confidence increases and players learn to concentrate better during exercises and rallies. They build perseverance by continuing to practice new techniques and take on challenges. Tennis also encourages discipline, as structure, repetition, and focus are important parts of the sport. Sportsmanship is also central: players learn to deal with winning and losing and to show respect for their opponent. Finally, tennis contributes to social interaction, as players collaborate, communicate, and motivate each other.
We believe tennis is a sport that contributes to your development, both on and off the court.
Many parents wonder what to expect from tennis lessons — and what their role should be.
The 359 Parent System provides clarity and helps you guide your child in the right way.
Private Lessons for Young Children
Want private lessons for your child? We recommend children up to age 8 take a shorter format. In terms of attention and intensity, a full private lesson is too long for young children — that's our experience. Book Duo Private Lessons: your child receives 25 minutes of individual attention per player (50 minutes total court booking).
View Duo Private Lessons for Kids →Tennis is a team sport
Tennis is never a solo sport. You train, learn and improve together — progress only happens through collaboration.
