Coach development and the 359.coach certification

At 359.tennis, a KNLTB diploma is the foundation, but not the endpoint. Every coach completes an internal certification pathway — the 359.coach certification — the development and quality system that ensures the 359 Method is applied consistently and correctly.

This article describes the 359.coach certification programme — an internal training pathway at three levels (Basic, Advanced, Expert) that ensures every coach correctly applies the 359 Method.

    Why a proprietary certification?

A tennis diploma teaches you to hit balls. But the 359 Method goes further: it integrates athletic, social and personal development into every lesson. To do this consistently, coaches must be specifically trained in our methodology, lesson structure and pedagogical approach.

    Level 1: Basic (Minimum)

Every new coach starts here. Level 1 covers:

    • Knowledge of the 359 Development System and three pillars: Fit · Fun · Focus™
    • The 359 Operating System — the fixed lesson structure in 5 phases
    • Fundamentals of game-based learning and differentiation
    • Theory exam + practical on-court assessment

    Level 2: Advanced

After at least one season of experience as a 359.coach, a coach can progress to Level 2:

    • In-depth understanding of the 359 Progress System
    • Competence in parent guidance and parent communication
    • Tactical and mental coaching for juniors and competitive players
    • Extended practical exam with video analysis

    Level 3: Expert / Mentor

Level 3 coaches are the senior coaches and mentors within the team:

    • Responsible for guiding Level 1 and 2 coaches
    • Contributing to the further development of the 359 Method
    • Specialisation in high-performance coaching or pedagogical innovation
    • Annual recertification and professional development required

    Continuous learning

Certification is not an endpoint. All coaches complete annual professional development — internally through workshops and externally through KNLTB training. This keeps lesson quality at 359.tennis consistent at a high level.

Bram had his first trial lesson last month and I was immediately convinced. The coach gave him a high-five afterwards and told him exactly what he did well. No pressure, just enthusiasm. We signed up for the full season right away.

Our whole family plays at 359. The kids train on Saturday morning, and my wife and I joined the adult group. It's become our shared hobby in the Netherlands. The coaches speak English and the international atmosphere makes us feel right at home.

Expat family — kids + adult program

As a family, we've been playing tennis with great enjoyment at 359.tennis for years. Two of our children follow the Academy and KNLTB Intake program, two are in the regular kids and juniors lessons. We also take group and private lessons ourselves. The training sessions are energetic, professional, and keep us feeling fit and vital.
